Follow Friday #2 and Book Blogger Hop #1

It's Friday again!

This week, the question is:

Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

Well, for me it's probably a combination of paranormal, urban fantasy and romance! (Sorry if this is considered cheating, oops) Almost all my favourite books contain romance, but somehow I just don't see romance as a genre itself, you know? It always feels like a sub-genre or something haha, like paranormal romance, contemporary romance, etc.

Anyway, the book that made me fall for this combi would probably be The Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong! Anyone who's a fan of this series? I really liked how it was in a modern setting, but the characters all had supernatural abilities and most importantly, it had romance! Unfortunately the author ended it off after 3 books. The Gathering, which Ms Armstrong released recently this year, is technically the first installment of a new companion series, but I still wish we could spend more time with the characters in Darkest Powers.

Afterwards I discovered other books like the Dark Elite series by Chloe Neill, Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick and Haven by Kristi Cook, and I was a goner for sure. If you guys have any recommendations, go on and sell those books to me; I'm dying to read more of such books! Or if you want to share your FF post with me, go ahead too and leave me a comment!

P.S: YA Dystopia is steadily creeping up my list too...how can it not, when there are so many wonderful dystopian books like Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, Lauren Oliver's Delirium, Lauren Destefano's Chemical Garden and of course Veronica Roth's Divergent!

This week's question:

“How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?”

Currently, according to my Goodreads shelf, I have 87 books in my TBR pile! These books are either titles I don't have but really want to read, or they have not been published yet. Everytime I add a book to the mini heap, I always feel a twinge of excitement and anticipation, but at the same time I also wonder if I'll ever get to read it in the near future.

So how many books do YOU have in your TBR mountain? Let me know!

I NEED to read The Darkest Powers series. Everything I've heard about them has been brilliant!

Hi, and thanks for the follow. I'm following back. :) I loved the Darkest Powers trilogy. I definitely understand the disappointment in leaving the characters behind. You've got a lot of the books I've enjoyed this year listed. You're right, it's not possible to pick just one genre!

Trish (Just a YA Girl)

You have made my day by not only mentioning The Darkest Powers series (soooo awesome) but also you're previous blog hop had the Mediator series. You're cool points have reach maximum.

Following back!

Those are all great series. I haven't read the Dark Elite series, but I have read Chloe Neill's Chicagoland series. It's quite good!

Thanks for the follow. Following back.

Tiffany

The Darkest Powers series is one of my favorites too :) I have The Gathering but haven't read it yet, I wonder if any old characters will show up in it.

If you read Hush Hush, did you try Fallen? It's a similar book but I think I like that one more.

I'm a new follower :)

The Book Angel

Hi! I'm hopping by from the Hop!

87 books isn't bad. To be honest, I have at least a thousand on my list between Goodreads and Amazon! haha.

My Hop is here:

Sarah

I haven't read anything by Kelley Armstrong, but I've heard lots about her books and have been meaning to of course. lol

87 books isn't so bad at all! The problem for me is that my pile tends to grow faster than I can read them. lol :)

Thanks for stopping by friday blogs hops as well!

Tristan

Hi Felicia, The Darkest Powers was awesome I love Derek, the characters from that trilogy and the new ones in The Gathering (Darkness Rising Trilogy) are all supposed to come together in the final book. So we will be seeing them again. Thanks for following, I'm following back. Have a great weekend!!

Ann @Semisweet

I loved the Darkest Powers series, too! The romance in that series was really well done, not rushed or forced. I loved Derek! lol. I liked The Gathering too, and Hush, Hush. And I also don't really think of romance, at least in YA, as a genre in and of itself. Usually I like a lot of other stuff thrown although I usually gravitate towards the paranormal. Angels and werewolves and magic, oh my! : )

kaye (paper reader)

The only thing I've read by Kelley Armstrong was The Gathering and it wasn't that memorable for me and I never wrote a review. Are her other series more cohesive?

I'll have to recommend Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series, Moira Young's Blood Red Road, Maria V. Snyder's Inside Out...boy, there are so many!

And my TBR is getting up there, too!

Aimee

Great answer. I'm enjoying the dystopian genre right now too. Hunger Games tops the list with Maze Runner and Divergent coming in close. I'm a new follower. Happy Friday!

Oh my goodness, the Darkest Powers series was positively brilliant! I have to agree with Kay above. I think that if you haven't read the Iron Fey series, you seriously need to give it a try because you'll adore it.

Carina

Thank you, Felicia, for stopping by at my blog. :)

I think it's pretty hard to just choose one genre I like most, because what I really enjoy is the diversity of YA. I can't just stick with one genre - I need to constantly switch and try to find something new. :D

Have a lovely weekend,
Carina

sometimes my TBR pile seems overwhelming too! I guess you have to take it one book at a time :). New follower hopping through!

Somer @ A Bird's Eye Review

Howard Sherman

I have way too many books on my TBR list and TBR pile. All told that comes to about sixty books.

Now here's the scary math: I read roughly one book per week - and sometimes two. But two to three books are being added to my TBR list every week.

Stressful, right?

Wrong!

Hop on over to my blog - http://www.howardsherman.net and find out why.

@The Paperback Heart: Yup I would definitely recommend you the series! Can't wait till you've read it :)

@Marla: We have the same taste in books then!:D I miss all the characters, even Tori.

@Trish: LOL and you have secured a place in my heart because you love them both!!

@Rie: Ooh Chicagoland sounds vaguely familiar but I'm pretty sure I haven't read it before.

@Tiffany: Thanks so much for your help, I managed to get my pages/tabs up following your instructions! :D

@Danielle: I think the old and new characters will unite, I just don't know when!): I read the first book of Fallen but for some reason I didn't finish the series...I'll have to re-read it!

@Book Angel: A THOUSAND!? Wow you're amazing haha! (seriously) I've stopped by your blog, thanks for visiting:D

@Sarah: Haha I know the feeling. I find new books to read faster than I read them!

@Tristan: Omg I'm totally looking forward to the last book then! Yup I love Derek...even with his BO and acne haha :D

@Ann: YES! The romance developed gradually over the three books and it just felt very natural(: Love Derek too!! Gosh I really think we share the same thinking when it comes to books and genres:D

@Kaye: I read Inside Out and I liked it!:D Haven't started on the second book though, wonder if its as good? Hooray I'm starting on Blood Red Road today, you've just increased my expectations for it(:

@Aimee: Oh I haven't read Maze Runner! I'm searching for dystopian books so thanks for sharing :D

@Meghann: I haven't heard of this series before, but since you guys liked it so much,I guess I have to give it a shot!(:

@Carina: I totally understand. There are so many genres in YA, no wonder we have such a hard time picking our favourite! It's hard to get sick of YA :D

@Nikki: Thanks, have a good time reading too!

@Alissa: Yep, you should, I'm sure you'll enjoy paranormal (:

@Christy: Ahh...who doesn't love a good old love story? :P Thanks for following, I'm an old follower! ^^

@Somer: Yup, so true. One book a day keeps the bookworm alive (: Thanks for visiting, following you back!

@Howard: Haha sixty is okay and one book a week is kind of reasonable. Thanks for coming!

@Katie: That's the stressful part about TBR lists haha. How do we read the books when we don't have them!?

@Pussreboots: Great system(:

@Lindsay: Thank you! I checked out your blog and followed too:D

soulunsung

Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Power series is definitely one of my favorite ya paranormal romances ever. I love her writing style and her unique storytelling. I'm excited to read her newest novel, The Gathering as I've heard so many great things about it.

Suz @ A Soul Unsung

Thanks for hopping by my blog! :) Urban fantasy is definitely one of my favorite genres as well, although I didn't list it in my post, and it was first introduced to me by Charles de Lint.

Droping in to say hi! Im a new follower!

barmybex

Thanks for visiting my blog, Hunger Games & Divergent are definitely among my all time favourites! I really want to read Delirium, & Chemical Garden they look great, trying to get copies. (I'm on a buying restriction as I have nowhere to store them and not really any money to spend anyway) hehe

I agree Romance is more of a sub-genre, a lot of books contain it but in different lights. :D

Have a great week.

Mimi Valentine

Hi! Thanks so much for dropping by -- I'm definitely following you back because your blog is super awesome and you have such similar tastes in books to me! :)

I LOVE urban fantasy & dystopian too! So many books about futuristic dystopias have been coming in and I loved them all, especially the one you mentioned (I'm currently re-reading Wither because the prose is so beautiful).

Hope you have an awesome weekend! :)
